It couldn't have been easy to make a video game that looked outdated in 1978, but Atari pulled it off with Home Run. 2600 owners may have openly mocked kids whose clueless parents bought them Odyssey2s or, even worse, Channel Fs, but secretly they envied those kids and their 9-on-9 baseball games.

Home Run more closely resembles a backyard game of wiffle ball than the Great American Pastime, with wacky pitches and only one player per side. Different play modes allow more fielders, but they line up next to each other like offensive lineman and when one of them fields the ball, the others disappear. Atari even defied conventional wisdom and put home plate at the top of the screen.
